SDS Models AKEX coil steel wagon, numbered AKEX 6-E , in HO scale.

The model is in good condition and is supplied unboxed. It is a highly detailed ready-to-run model with factory-applied decoration, full underfloor detailing and genuine Kadee couplers.

Prototype History

Between 1986 and 1987, Australian National modified twenty AOQY ore wagons for the transport of coiled steel sheet. The original bodywork was removed and replaced with a new structure specifically designed for coil steel traffic.

These wagons operated on both broad and standard gauge. In the early 1990s, they became part of the National Rail Corporation pool and were subsequently recoded RCEX.
