Available now is this Auscision A66 in the distinctive V/Line “Olympics for Melbourne 1996” orange and grey livery, released as part of Auscision’s second release in June 2017. This is a striking and unusual variation of the A class, representing A66 in the promotional scheme it carried following the earlier Bicentennial livery.

This version features second pattern Flexicoil bogies, a plate over part of the grille work unique to A66 in this scheme, and an additional handrail adjacent to each nose door, helping capture the prototype accurately. This model is a standard DC version and comes with its original box.

Auscision’s A class models are well regarded for their detail and smooth running qualities, and this example is no exception. It features a ready-to-run ABS plastic body, heavy die-cast chassis, blackened metal disc wheels (RP25-110), scale-sized metal knuckle couplers, a highly detailed underframe, and separately applied metal parts. Further detail includes brass air horns, metal and plastic handrails and brake piping, highly detailed bogies with separately applied parts, metal etched mirrors and windscreen wipers, see-through metal etched grilles, and a detailed cab with painted driver figures.

Lighting features include operating LED headlights, number box lights, and marker lights, complete with manual override switches. Mechanically, the locomotive is fitted with a 5-pole skew wound motor with twin brass flywheels, all wheel drive and electrical pickup, and will operate on Code 70, 83 and 100 rail, with an 18-inch recommended minimum radius.

For those wanting to fit a decoder, the model is DCC ready with a 21-pin socket on the standard DC version. It also includes separately applied air hoses and MU cables, making it an excellent example for both collectors and operators.

A standout and colourful A class model that would make a great addition to any Victorian diesel fleet.
