Bachmann 393-102 – RNAD Enclosed-End Brake Van No. 65 (OO9 Scale)
Bachmann 393-102 – RNAD Enclosed-End Brake Van No. 65 (OO9 Scale)
Welsh Highland Railway Red | Preserved Era
This Bachmann OO9 scale RNAD Enclosed-End Brake Van, running number 65, is finished in the pristine Welsh Highland Railway red livery.
The model represents a preserved example of a brake van originally used on the Royal Navy Armaments Depot (RNAD) railway system, later preserved and operating on the Welsh Highland Railway.
Prototype Background
Royal Navy Armaments Depots (RNAD) were strategic sites across the United Kingdom used for the storage and supply of naval munitions to the Royal Navy and allied forces.
Many of these depots were rail-served facilities, often with their own internal narrow gauge railway systems used to transport ammunition between underground storage magazines, workshops, and the main standard gauge railway connections.
These narrow gauge systems operated with specialised locomotives and rolling stock built specifically for safe operations within armament depots.
Following depot closures in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, a number of locomotives and wagons were preserved. This enclosed-end brake van is one such example, previously used at RNAD Trecwn, and now preserved on the Welsh Highland Railway where it carries the railway’s distinctive red livery.
