Royal Navy Armaments Depots (RNAD) were strategically important facilities across the UK, responsible for the storage and distribution of armaments for the Royal Navy and other British and Commonwealth armed forces. These depots typically consisted of multiple underground magazines and were rail-served by the national network, with many also operating internal narrow gauge railway systems to move materials between magazines, workshops, and exchange sidings.

The narrow gauge railways within RNAD sites operated their own purpose-built fleets of locomotives and rolling stock. While some remained in use into the early 21st century, depot closures eventually made much of this stock redundant. Fortunately, many vehicles have since been preserved and continue to operate on heritage railways.

This Open-End Brake Van is one such survivor. Now resident at the Statfold Barn Railway, it is finished in a GWR-inspired brown livery and carries markings for Statfold Junction, reflecting its preserved-era appearance.
