PECO OO9 Ffestiniog Railway ‘Bug Box’ Third Class Coach – Victorian Plum & Cream – GR-555

A$60.00

Add an authentic piece of early Welsh narrow-gauge railway history to your layout with the PECO OO9 Ffestiniog Railway Third Class ‘Bug Box’ Coach, finished in its intricate Victorian plum and cream livery.

These distinctive four-wheeled coaches were built in 1864 by Brown, Marshall & Co. of Birmingham for the Ffestiniog Railway. Officially known as the Small Birmingham coaches, they are more commonly nicknamed Bug Boxes because of their compact size and unusual appearance.

This model represents the third-class version and accurately reproduces the coach’s original colour scheme. PECO developed the livery in consultation with the specialists responsible for maintaining and restoring the surviving prototype coaches on the Ffestiniog Railway. Particular attention has been given to matching the correct shades of plum and cream, along with the characteristic lining and period detailing.

The third-class coach features fewer side windows than the other Bug Box variants, together with accurately represented oil-lamp vents on the roof. Its compact four-wheel design makes it ideal for recreating Victorian-era narrow-gauge passenger trains and heritage railway operations.

The original Bug Box coaches survive in preservation and continue to operate during special events on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways as part of the railway’s Victorian train.
