707 Operations 'Winelander'

On the 2nd of December, I ventured about hour away from Melbourne to the charming regional town of Castlemaine. Following that, we traverse the countryside to reach the Daylesford Spa Railway, eagerly anticipating the inaugural service featuring the former V/Line N set.

Wandong Live Steamers - 2023

In late September I got to experience something remarkable as I had the opportunity to partake in an unforgettable experience at Wandong Live Steamers, situated just on the outskirts of Melbourne. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the exhilarating experience of operating not one, but a few of these magnificent machines.

Imagine the thrill of being at the controls of these engineering marvels, it was an absolute pleasure, and the memory of that day will stay with me for a long time.

For those curious about the days excitement, of course there will be a video documenting this incredible event.

So, don't forget to stay tuned and join in on the fun when it's released!

We did luck out with V/lines A66 running the service. A66 can still be seen in operation today on various heritage trains.

The Vintage Train - Ballarat 6/5/2006

Steamrail’s K153 and K190 visited Ballarat with the Vintage train, unfortunately K190 derailed on the turntable. Although it was soon righted and they went back to Melbourne.

A notable thing here in this very different looking yard is, R700 awaiting restoration and former Y Class steam locomotive, which was subsequently converted to diesel Y109 ‘The Thing’ in the background.

Broken Hill - 2006

During a school trip in 2006, we embarked on a fascinating journey to Broken Hill. This expedition offered me an incredible opportunity to witness an array of trains that left a lasting impression on me.

Among the captivating sights were the unexpected presence of the withdrawn 86 and 85 electric units, which found their new home in Broken Hill, well temporally.
