Clyde Shirt
Clyde Shirt
Clyde Engineering was one of Australia’s most important manufacturers of locomotives, rolling stock, and industrial equipment.
The company was established in September 1898 after a syndicate of Sydney businessmen purchased the Granville factory of timber merchants Hudson Brothers. Clyde Engineering went on to manufacture railway rolling stock, trams, agricultural machinery, and equipment for major infrastructure projects. In 1907, the company received its first contract to build steam locomotives for the New South Wales Government Railways.
Over the following decades, Clyde became closely associated with Australian railways, producing many well-known steam and diesel locomotives for operators across the country.
